Day 12: Soccer, Swimming, Shoes, and Baseball

We started the day by donating soccer balls to Sor Maria Romero where the students are trying to organize a soccer team.  Tomorrow we will return to help get them organized and to structure a real practice for them.

From there we crossed town to Sr. Rivera's childhood school to donate tennis and soccer equipment.  This school is know for having some outstanding athletes despite some of the worst equipment or just no equipment at all.  Nolan gave a brief speech as the CASA soccer representative, and Quintin gave a brief speech as the CASA tennis representative.

The boys enjoyed some time off exploring la Estanzuela where they swam under the huge waterfall, explored the small cave hidden behind the waterfall, and jumped from some rocks into the pool below.  Afterwards, we picked up trash around the area and drove back to Esteli for lunch.

We donated some of the like-new shoes Virginia Runner generously donated to the Aldea.  The boys then proceeded to have what they described as their best day of class.  They keep saying that, but it really seems that they keep raising the bar.  It is true that they are doing an excellent job of working together, using their materials, and managing the students.

After class, we went to the local little league to donate the rest of the baseballs Coach Heil gave us as well as some cleats we had collected and some new baseball gloves.  Again, Brandon gave a short speech on behalf of CASA and WFS to the coaches and players.  The team then challenged us to a game, and, despite EJ's bases loaded home run, team CASA still lost.
