Day 18: Speech

One of the best speeches of the day

 The other serious contender

We started the day with speeches about our visit to the Supreme Court.  These were the best speeches so far, and most of the boys exceeded the three minute minimum.  If we had to choose, the winners of this round were Jorge and Blakely who had a solid command of the vocabulary, content, and performance.  I encourage the boys to make the most of their last couple of days in Esteli and to push themselves even harder to make gains with their Spanish.  The boys have come a long way in just a couple of weeks.

After lunch we got together to continue working with the students over at Sor Maria Romero.  I had already contacted them to confirm that we would be there to run soccer practice, but as is so typical, the students never showed up.  Instead, the students from another school we know were there.  It turns out that they too were stood up, so we played an exciting game of soccer.  While these were 5th graders, their passing and ball control were far superior to our own, but we had the height advantage and won 3-1 with at least two headers.

Tomorrow we will donate the rest of the shoes and cleats as well as say our goodbyes to the students at the Aldea and our host families.
