Day 15: Beach and Baseball

 About to hit the waves

We had an early breakfast in the hotel and then went to the beach for the rest of the morning.  The boys were amazed by the height and strength of the waves.  After some serious body surfing, some beach soccer, wiffle-ball, and surfing, we had lunch on the beach.

When we got back to the hotel, we showered and changed for the Cuba vs. Nicaragua national baseball game. The game was one of the most exciting baseball games I have ever experienced.  Both sides were unbelievably patriotic, energetic, and loud.  It wasn't until the bottom of the 7th that anyone scored, and the stadium, which was completely packed, went wild because it was the Nicaraguan team that scored.  Unfortunately, at the top of the 8th, the Nicaraguan pitching, which had been stellar, slipped, and the Cubans scored two runs to win the first game of the series.  While all of this was exciting, what made it even more exciting was that our seats were right next to the Cuban dugout.

That's how close we were to the field

A packed stadium

Tomorrow we will enjoy another half day at the beach before heading back to Esteli.
