Day 14: Supreme Court

Outside of chambers with the magistrate

After months of planning and a daily barrage of calls, we finally got to visit the Nicaraguan Supreme Court.  Upon arrival, we were taken to the chamber where all of the Supreme Court decisions are made.  We met with one of the twelve Supreme Court justices who explained to us the judicial system (which is very similar to our own) as well as some initiatives that have already been put in place to help teach youth about their civil rights.  When Jorge asked a rather pointed question about the constitutional legality of the President running for and winning an extra term, we were then introduced to one of the magistrates of the court who legitimized the presidency.  The boys learned how the constitution could be interpreted in various ways, and at least three ways the current President's term is constitutional.

From Managua we traveled to Leon where we settled in to our hotel and went out to eat at a very nice restaurant called La Capital.
 Notice the lions of Leon

Tomorrow we will go to the beach!
